EPA Building - A new initiative

E.P Abraham

The department wishes to initiate research programmes into the mechanisms of disease. The new building will be available for occupancy early 2001, complete with laboratory space for new group leaders, as well as independent investigators at all levels. Examples of research fields include (but are not restricted to):

bulletmicrobial and viral pathogenesis of infectious disease and its control
bulletcell and molecular biology related to cancer
bullettransgenesis and animal models of disease
bulletgene expression and its regulation
bulletvascular biology, and
bulletbioinformatics

The Department has no clinical responsibilities and has excellent facilities for cell and molecular research. Current research includes immunology, nuclear structure and function, and microbial and viral molecular cell biology. We are particularly interested in sponsoring and underwriting applicants to external sources of funding. Further funding will be available for start-up and support through a large range of services.

All positions will be advertised next autumn but the search committee wishes to receive informal expressions of interest at this stage.
