1. With examples, how does the breakdown in self vs. non-self recognition process lead to host-damage?
2. Discuss the similarities and differences between the responses to intracellular pathogens (including viruses) and the processes leading to rejection of allografts.
3. Describe the ways in which HIV and the immune system interact and influence each other during the progression from initial infection to end-stage AIDS.
4. What is the role of the immune system in the development of cardiovascular disease?
5. Cancer is the result of multiple changes in the cell. Discuss this and briefly consider what this means for immunological or biological therapies for malignant disease (i.e. NOT chemotherapy, radiotherapy, surgery but things that change the behaviour of the tumour cells themselves).
